I would prefer Visual Studio over WebMatrix, simply because I am far more familar with it and I know how to easily use it to develop all types of applications ( someĭurandel and Breeze are commonly used Javascript libraries when discussing different methods and templates for developing different types of web applications and will be able to be used with either WebMatrix or Visual Studio. Should be able to handle a few other technologies that it cannot ( such as MVC). It should be noted however that Visual Studio is Microsoft's primary IDE and rightfully so and it will be able to do everything that WebMatrix can do and
In terms of preference, that is completely up to you if you prefer using WebMatrix over Visual Studio. Of Visual Studio, which will provide a more complete development environment that could really handle any sort of development-related projects. WebMatrix functions as an IDE (development environment) where you can build and develop all sorts of applications ( including those that you referred to earlier that rely on Durandel and Breeze, but not MVC). The two technologies that you are referring to are completely different and woudn't really be all that comparable.
